Avikus and ALMI Tankers Enter Strategic Partnership to Advance Autonomous Navigation Across VLCC Fleet
Avikus PR Team

ATHENS, GREECE / SEOUL, KOREA — May 28, 2026 — Avikus, HD Hyundai's specialized subsidiary dedicated to autonomous navigation and smart ship solutions, and ALMI Tankers S.A., a Greek-based tanker management company committed to operational integrity and sustainable maritime services, today announced a strategic partnership to deploy Avikus' AI-powered HiNAS Navigation and HiNAS Cloud solutions across ALMI Tankers' VLCC fleet.
Under the partnership, Avikus' HiNAS Navigation system has been successfully installed and activated aboard the ALMI Atlas, with deployment on the ALMI Titan scheduled to follow. Furthermore, both companies have committed to a long-term technology roadmap, which includes the additional installation of HiNAS SVM (Surround View Monitoring) during the vessels' scheduled dry docking in 2028 to complement the existing system with comprehensive 360-degree situational awareness. The agreement reflects both companies' shared commitment to elevating navigation safety, operational efficiency, and long-term fleet sustainability — while defining a collaborative roadmap for continuous improvement through ongoing operational feedback and joint innovation.
A Partnership Built on Shared Standards
ALMI Tankers has long been recognized in the global tanker industry for its rigorous standards of operational integrity, quality, and environmental responsibility. With a VLCC fleet equipped to the highest navigational class standards — including vessels built to the NAUT-OC notation — and a culture of adopting advanced technologies ahead of market norms, ALMI Tankers represents an exacting environment in which autonomous navigation solutions must prove genuine operational value.
The deployment of HiNAS Navigation delivers real-time AI-powered situational awareness and decision support to bridge teams, seamlessly integrating with existing onboard navigation infrastructure — including AIS, ARPA radar, and ECDIS — to enhance the safety and efficiency of deep-sea tanker operations. The addition of HiNAS SVM will further enhance the safety environment for VLCC operations by providing a dedicated 360-degree 'bird’s-eye' view alongside the HiNAS Navigation. HiNAS Cloud extends this capability shoreside, enabling fleet-level performance oversight and continuous service improvement in close collaboration between ALMI Tankers and Avikus teams.
Quotes
"This partnership with ALMI Tankers is a defining milestone — not just for Avikus, but for the tanker segment as a whole. ALMI Tankers is known across the industry for setting the standard in operational integrity, and the deployment of HiNAS in their fleet is a testament to the real-world value autonomous navigation can deliver. More importantly, this is the beginning of a collaborative journey: we are committed to continuously improving our solutions through operational experience, and ALMI Tankers is exactly the kind of partner that will make us better." — Jay H. Kang, CEO, Avikus
"At ALMI Tankers, we are committed to working with partners who share our values of quality, transparency, and continuous improvement. Our partnership with Avikus is grounded in exactly this philosophy: we see autonomous navigation not merely as a tool, but as a platform for collaboration — one through which we can jointly raise the benchmark for safety and efficiency in tanker operations. We look forward to deepening this relationship as the technology evolves." — Capt. Stylianos Dimouleas, CEO, ALMI Tankers S.A.
Expanding the Frontier of Autonomous Maritime Operations
Posidonia 2026 marks the occasion for both companies to reaffirm this partnership publicly, and to signal a clear ambition: that the application of intelligent navigation technology in the tanker sector is no longer a future prospect — it is present reality, co-shaped by operators who demand the highest standards.
For Avikus, the ALMI Tankers partnership represents its first major footprint in the Greek tanker owner community and a strategic entry point into the global tanker segment. For ALMI Tankers, it affirms a long-standing culture of technology-forward thinking — a culture evidenced by the company's prior adoption of Starlink connectivity, solid-state radar, and IMO-compliant eco-efficient vessel designs.
Both companies have expressed their intent to explore further collaboration. Specially, Avikus has identified the 2028 dry docking period as a pivotal milestone and the primary window to discuss a potential upgrade to HiNAS Control — Avikus' AI-powered Level 2 autonomous control system, whose main functions include collision avoidance and fuel saving by calculating and executing the optimal RPM for each voyage — as fleet operations mature and the shared data foundation deepens.
